June 15-17, 22-24 2007
Directed by Larry Schmidt
Original Music by Chris Gibson
The time is May, 1948, a few weeks after Israel was recognized as a free state by the United States. A 12-year old Brooklyn boy has been expelled from Hebrew School for making blasphemous remarks in class, just a few short months before he is to make his Bar Mitzvah. Although banned from the temple, the Rabbi agrees to let him be tutored outside the temple, and be confirmed if he can learn his prayers before his thirteenth birthday. Will he learn his prayers in time, or will he pass into Jewish manhood without being formally inducted as a Bar Mitzvah boy?
